Javokhir Sindarov is on a historic hot streak.
He followed up his 2025 World Cup victory by tearing through the 2026 Candidates in Cyprus. He finished undefeated with 10/14 points—the highest score ever in the current double round-robin format. His rating has surged to a career-high No. 11 in the world. Gukesh is in a "slump" by world-class standards.
Since winning the title two years ago, his form has fluctuated. Most recently, he finished near the bottom of the field at the 2026 Prague Masters, winning only one game.
